rivertracks program
big picture
In partnership with the ‘Big Picture’ program at Murwillumbah High School, we run a trade skills workshop for students as part of their school curriculum on Thursdays. This education approach reconnects students with learning through individual interests and passions.
Big Picture is a new way of learning that puts young people at the centre of their education. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, students work on projects based on their interests, connect with mentors and gain real-world experience that makes learning meaningful, including:
- Hands-on woodwork projects (planter boxes, dog houses, benches and more)
- Tailored for Year 9–10 students enrolled in Big Picture
Students at Murwillumbah High School enrolled in the Big Picture program.
“I’ve been doing construction work with RiverTracks. We go out and learn construction skills and put them to use. This group doesn’t just help with construction, it also helps with teamwork, confidence and communication.”
– Joel, 15 years old
“When we connected with RiverTracks, it was such a fabulous opportunity for our students. The environment was safe and supportive and students were able to learn and use skills that will always be useful in their lives.
Many of these students have struggled to find a reason to come to school. It has shown many of these students that they have skills in practical areas. It has helped build their confidence.”– Beth Matsuto, Big Picture Advisor
